Joseph Parker tested positive as part of a anti-doping examination conducted the very day he fought in 11th-round stoppage to English fighter Ipswich-born Wardley.
Fabio Wardley and Joseph Parker participated in a thrilling bout staged in the UK capital on 25 October to decide the next WBO mandatory challenger against reigning heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk.
Joseph Parker had been the leading contender to challenge the champion after stringing together an impressive six wins in a row, however put his shot at the title on the line during the bout and experienced a stoppage in round eleven.
A standard screening conducted on the boxer by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency on the day of the bout showed an adverse result which leaves the veteran boxer facing a challenge to clear his name.
The boxer's representatives published an announcement declaring: "The agency notified all relevant parties that Joseph Parker had a positive result after a drug screening conducted on the fight day. While the matter is investigated, no additional comment are forthcoming currently."
The New Zealand boxer earned the title of world champion back in 2016 until he surrendered his championship belt by unanimous decision to Anthony Joshua at the Millennium Stadium two years later.
Joseph Parker became a frequent visitor on British soil from that point, competing in eight bouts in total on UK territory and transferring to the Irish capital for preparation under esteemed mentor Andy Lee during this period.
Coached by Andy Lee, Joseph Parker overcame his defeat in 2022 versus British heavyweight Joyce to chalk up several successes that placed him front of the queue to face Usyk prior to he suffered defeat against Wardley.
Subsequent to Parker's sample showed a positive test when he fought Wardley, reportedly involving cocaine, an investigation into the findings has been started.
