Security Council representatives voted in favour to a United States-backed measure ending penalties on President Ahmed al-Sharaa of Syria prior to his presidential meeting the coming week.
He became provisional head of state subsequent to commanding a revolutionary movement that removed the previous leader in winter 2024, bringing to a close 13 years of civil war.
America's diplomat to the UN Mike Waltz said the UN had sent "an emphatic political statement" that recognised Syria was in "a fresh chapter" after Assad's removal.
Sharaa was under United Nations restrictions in his role as head of the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), previously associated with the terrorist network. America delisted the group from its registry of foreign terror groups during July.
The UN also removed sanctions on Syrian Interior Minister the interior minister.
The nation's top diplomat expressed satisfaction with the elimination of these restrictions, declaring through digital channels: "The nation shows its gratitude to Washington and supportive states for assisting of Syria and its people."
President Sharaa's presidential meeting on Monday follows President Trump remarked that Sharaa had made "good progress" towards bringing peace to the previously divided state.
The pair met for the first time this past May, when Trump visited Riyadh on a tour of the region.
Following that encounter, the US president described the Syrian as a "strong individual" possessing a "powerful background".
His former militant faction operated as the terrorist network's partner in Syria prior to breaking relations back in 2016.
Monday's visit does not represent his initial visit to the US during this period. During September, he became the first Syrian leader to present to the global assembly in New York after approximately sixty years.
Throughout his presentation, he stated the country had been "reclaiming its rightful place within the global community" while showing support toward Gaza's residents.
